Catching Up

The kitchen is nearly finished and I have spent most of the weekend filling up the units with all the things I had packed back into boxes. I had to buy new saucepans as mine were unsuitable for the new hob. The first thing I cooked in my new kitchen was pancakes, a little premature I know. No photo though as I was so greedy I ate them before I thought of getting my camera out.

At the weekend we bought this old enamel 5 ft. sign for the kitchen. I thought it would look great and I love the colour.

Talking of colours, I have painted the walls white and the units are white so I have a completely blank canvas. I ordered some things from Cath Kidston as I fancied vintagey blues and reds but my husband isn't keen on this rather feminine look.

Talking of Cath Kidston, having criticised their customer service in a previous post I have to praise their handling of this order as it came very quickly.

We also bought an old pine plate rack at the weekend. I'm not sure if I will use it in the kitchen so if not I will be putting it on the website. We found a little antique shop I had never visited before just crammed with beautiful things. I could have spent a fortune but was very restrained!

I bought these flowers last week and was surprised to see that the variety of daffodil is called St. Keverne which is where I lived for 14 years and was married from. I thought I would try to buy some bulbs to plant in the garden.

Spring seems to be almost upon us. I have been watching a pair of doves building a nest in a tree in our garden. A couple of blackbirds were hovering (preparing to gazump?) but the doves were having none of it!

Have a good week everyone.

Letters

Stuck in a Book had a quiz where he showed pictures of 10 of his favourite things beginning with the letter E. I thought it would be fun to try this and was allocated the letter A, so here goes. I shall put the answers as well, as most of them will be pretty obvious.

We have lots of these Arum lilies in our garden and they came into bloom just after we moved here.
I had to include Jane Austen. This is her house at Chawton which I have visited twice as it is not too far from where I live.

I have always loved Abba's music, still do, but I know I am in the minority as I hated the film 'Mamma Mia'. Dancing Queen is an all time favourite and when I was younger I always wanted to look like Agnetha who I think is stunning.
I love avocadoes and aniseed balls, though not together!

I am also partial to Aero, especially peppermint flavour (well any chocolate really).

Of course I have to mention antiques and I will stop anywhere I see this sign.

I like armoires (especially antique armoires) but I don't have one (though I am working on it) especially ones filled with eiderdowns (I know that's E).
Gosh that was quite difficult, I'm sure I wouldn't have struggled so much had I had a different letter. Talking of letters, I received a letterpress 'H' in the post this morning so have now completed my name.

Getting Plastered!

Well, the snow has all disappeared and the sun is shining reminding us that Spring is just around the corner.

The new kitchen is coming along in leaps and bounds. Today the tiles are being put on the new roof and the whole room is being plastered. One of the platerers is on stilts (because it is a high ceiling) which is a sight to see!
The kitchen units and appliances are being delivered on Friday and installed next week. This weekend we have to paint the first coat on the walls and ceiling so it's all getting rather exciting with the end in sight.
