Distressed Dresser

Life is a bit busy at the moment. Whilst I am reluctant to tempt fate and actually start packing in case the house sale falls through I have been sorting through the vast amount of things we seem to accumulate. Living by William Morris's maxim to 'Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful' is just too difficult but I am trying very hard to de-clutter and I do actually enjoy disposing of things I just do not need anymore and which may be of use to someone else. All very cathartic.
As a little light relief (!) I have been painting. We bought this dresser when we were first married and I no longer liked it. It was either spend about £1500 on a new white dresser I had seen and liked or paint the old one so here it is before and after.

I also painted a wooden chandelier that a friend didn't want anymore.

I know just the place this is going to go in our new home (fingers crossed!).

  2. What a transformation on the dresser, you wouldn't think it was the same one, looks great in white, and the chandelier. Bet you're itching to get moved and put everything in it's new places.

  5. You're a braver woman than me! I've got a very large oak dresser, we bought it on Ebay a couple of years ago, we've thought about painting it white a la Laura Ashley but I'm too scared! What if we hate it? Yours looks fab, you've done a good job there.

  6. Hi there - thanks for your comments on my blog - I'm glad the pics of Scarborough bought back memories for you. Unfortunately the Grand is really disappointing nowadays, for such a beautiful building. when we moved here, a year ago, we saw it and said "we must go there for tea" - when we looked inside, it was like we were somewhere else - they were serving a 2 for a fiver menu, and happy hour at the bar - such a shame! I have heard though, that they are doing a scheme of refurbishment so fingers crossed they can bring back some of its former glory

  11. Hi Ohsovintage. Just thought i'd tell you about my new shop, where i've made paintings into mugs, t shirts, mousemats, etc. I thought you might like to make a shop yourself with your lovely designs etc. No i've nothing to do with the company! I've just enjoyed making my items and have even sold a couple! It's free, the company makes up and sends the goods and you take 10% commission. Not bad for some designing. Anyway take a peek here and i thought maybe Rosie would be interested with her fab photos! Hope all's well with you and the house.
