There is an article in this month's
Country Living in which a lady 'believes that everyone should be made to wear a Fair isle knit at some point in their life'. Reading this prompted me to dig out a couple of items I made members of my family wear. I knitted this for my husband back in the late 70s. He did wear it but how could he not after I had knitted so much love into every stitch!
I knitted this Fair Isle coat and hat for Rosie when she was about two in 1986.
She did look gorgeous in it but she was always trying to pull the bonnet off, I guess now it may have been itchy as it is pure wool.
Very impressive knitting! I could never get to grips with Fair Isle, but hubby's still wearing an Aran jumper I knitted him for our first Christmas - and it'll be our 31st anniversary at the end of next month!

Ah Rosie just look at you, you cutie! You must be thrilled your mum's put that on here he he. My sons were too when i did.
ReplyDeleteTrouble is, though they look great, those knits are normally horribly itchy aren't they. Ugh.
These knits are great, they look as good as the day you knitted them. You could get away with wearing the tank top now, it would look quite trendy over a white shirt. Lovely photo of your daughter in her knit, and so good you have kept it. x
ReplyDeleteGosh, those must have taken an absolute age to knit, Rosie looks so sweet in her outfit.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I went to classes to learn to paint the roses, as I told Jacki, it's very difficult to get the technique from book, you need to see someone doing it really,
best wishes,

Ruth you're a wonderful knitter! I read the article too and instantly wanted a Fair Isle, might have to try and hunt out some socks from somewhere? Have you knitted anything for yourself?

Such beautiful pieces! I know the article you mean, it was really inspiring. I wish you speed and smoothness on the house front, such exciting yet perplexing times I'm sure! Take care,x
ReplyDeleteLovely Fair Isle...you must be very talented to knit something so complicated. It's still really popular...Noreen nearly bought Brain a Fair Isle pullover for Christmas from Monsoon.

Oh what beautiful knitting! Your daughter looks so adorable! (I saw her tugging at that little bonnet!) heehee
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that you still have that outfit your daughter wore in 1986 - I guess she must be about 24 now? I remember my mum buying me 2 fair isle jumpers when I was about 10 - I hated them, but didn't want to hurt her feelings and so wore them every now and again so she wouldn't guess! - natalie x
