Winchester

Last night's 'Red sky at night....' promised a lovely day today and it has just been gorgeous, so warm and sunny.

We had booked to have lunch at the Hotel du Vin in Winchester (where the Creme Brulee is to die for!) then spent the afternoon wandering round the shops and walking along the river.

First a prezzie for hubby in Jack Wills

then just a little one for me in here.
It's very pretty walking along the river

Then through the backstreets to the car.

Last weekend the weather was equally nice and we visited a National Trust property called The Vyne in Hampshire. It's an impressive 16th century house dating back to Henry VIII's reign. It's a real mis-match of styles as one owner of the house was a definite recycler taking bits of the house such as doors, wall hangings, fireplaces etc. from one area and utilising them somewhere else.

We've been thinking of having a summerhouse at the bottom of our garden. I'd like one like this!

After another lovely lunch in here we walked round the walled garden.

  3. I don't ever remember seeing the sky so pink as it was yesterday evening (Sat). I didn't have my camera on me. There really are some great properties to visit around the country. We did join the NT for this year, so a few more visits will be in the planning. It was good to get a guided tour around Winchester, I can't recall ever being there? x

  4. Hello Ruth
You've had the kind of day out which is right up my street. A blend of a few shops, walking around an interesting city and then a visit to a National Trust property.
Creme Brulee... I must remember that restaurant when I next go there as it is one of my favourite desserts!!!
    Take care

  6. Wow, what a place! V nice.
I think the course is only run here, (and it might not run at all if they don't get enough people).
Much as I hated Middlemarch, I'm officially disgusted by your Waterstones experience.
I didn't think The Night Watch was as good as Fingersmith, Tipping the Velvet or The Little Stranger. Fingersmith is the best page turner ever, so if you feel like giving her another go, try that one.
