Following on from my last post......
I have been going to a felt making class for the last few months. I'm a bit disappointed as I envisaged making bags and scarves just like in this book
but having been shown the initial techniques we seem to be doing quite a lot of embroidery too. So I decided to have a go myself at home. I ordered some wools
and decided to 'copy' my Ikea picture. This is my first attempt and it is still wet so looks a bit 'glisteny'.I think there is probably room for improvement (!) but I have so much wool (merino tops) that I can keep practising.
I love the way that vintage things can sit alongside the contemporary and modern and both look good together. Underneath this picture I have vintage enamel on a vintage Hungarian table runner. This stripy modern cushion sits well with the French monogrammed R (and Laura Ashley fabric) cushion and the cushion I made from Hungarian grain sack (more available on my website or to order.
just had to come over and say YES! You've summed it up so totally completely in the comment you just left- and they will never ever understand!
ReplyDeleteMind you, if they weren't like men they'd BE women and then where would that leave us!
I love your first felting, and I'm also a great believer in mixing old and new- I think they both bring out the best in eachother.
If you think it looks good it usually does, and hey- who want's to look like veryone else, be it a la Cath K or Ikea!
I also think old houses have perfect proportions for modern designs, and I LOVE putting modern prints in old frames.
Hope you had a nice weekend- pouring with rain here- and a good week coming up.
xx
I love your felt picture, something I have always fancied trying. I too have a mix of vintage and new and they can work well together, love the grain sack cushion.

I totally agree with you Ruth. My home is a mix of vintage, contemporary and modern too. I really like this style. As for your felt picture, I am so very impressed. I'm amazed it's your first attempt! x
