I have only recently joined our local library as I previously always bought my books from Amazon. I have a bit of a thing about new books; I love the smell of the new paper and being the first person to open its pages! Also the last time I borrowed a book (many years ago before you could renew on line) I was annoyed to pay out more in a fine than the book would have cost me to buy! But having bought so many books, perhaps not enjoyed or even read some of them before donating them to a charity shop I decided to join the library on line. I hadn't realised you can reserve any book for 50p and now you can even take out magazines on loan (though these are restricted to a 7 day loan).
This is what I have borrowed today all for the princely sum of 50p
with some images from the book.
I am a very regular visitor to my library and have always been since a child it is just second nature to me! It always feels like having visited a toy shop or vintage shop coming back with my latest stash of books! Our library don't hire out magazines, what a good ides especially when it includes one of my favourites - Coast magazine! Our library has magazines to look at and I try to spend one lunch hour a month enjoying looking through them!

ReplyDeleteDid you reserve online? We do and its free. They also get books from other libraries and you pick them up locally. They also buy in books which you can lend for free if they do not have them. The last one they got from Amazon £17 then we lent if for free LOL Stoke council get a bad press (well deserved) but can't knock the library's online service.
ReplyDeleteWe are very lucky to have a real bricks & mortar library even though our little town only has a population of 3,000, but I have only used it for its local history books. I've just googled our library & find it offers the services you mention & more, so I shall mend my ways!

ReplyDeleteI used to use our Library a lot, then got out of the habit - partly, like you, because it's so easy to buy from Amazon, and generally reasonable prices. I shall check out our Library, though, to see if they loan mags. I love looking at home magazines, but they are so expensive now. That book looks lovely! x
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant idea to borrow magazines from the library .....just shows how long it's been since I visited our local library !! I used to buy so many interiors magazines but I only buy Jeanne d'Arc Living now.
ReplyDeleteNote to self : Check out the library !! XXXX
