I cheated on the decorating in this bedroom by painting over the wallpaper but it actually looks ok. The artexed ceiling still has to be skimmed (just visible in the photo with fan shapes!!) and I haven't painted the floorboards yet.
Next month we celebrate our pearl wedding anniversary (30 years). The picture on the mirror is one I made several years ago from an anniversary card hubby had given me as I thought it was so lovely. When I showed him he asked 'That's lovely, who gave you that?!! And I thought it had been carefully chosen for these words!
Because hands are meant to be held
Because lips are meant to be kissed
Because words are meant to be spoken
Because tears are meant to be wiped away
Because dreams are meant to be realized
Because love is meant to be nurtured
Because life is meant to be shared -
Because we are meant to be together.
I have spent the last week painting over the wallpaper on the stairs, hall and landing. After the wall coming off with the paper in the lounge I didn't dare risk that happening again. It was all a shade of dark green which has taken 5 coats of white paint to cover!
The next photo will either have a reaction of 'That's awful!' or 'Ingenious!'. I think I like it, hubby does; I think I can safely say it's different. We couldn't find any wall lights we liked for the stairs and landing so hubby decided to polish up an old rain hopper and attach it to the wall over a light fitting and voila!!
What do you think? Now be honest!
I think it's genius!! And I love the words from the anniversary card as well- would make a great wedding card, or civil ceremony reading perhaps..
ReplyDeleteIt's a very good idea, the result is nice !!! The anniversary card is lovely and also the wooden door and the white walls in your bedroom ..
ReplyDeleteFrom a french customer ;-))...
Clever! Wish I'd thought of it!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your up and coming anniversary. We celebrated our 30th just over a year ago. Where did that time go? I bet you can't believe it either!!
You certainly seem to be getting to grips with the decorating in your new home. We had to paint over our paper hurriedly before Hannah's wedding last year, and I think we'll just have to live with it. It's amazing how you get used to anaglypta and woodchip if you have to!!!!! If there were enough hours in the day I'd strip it all, but there aren't, so I won't!
Congratulations Ruth on 30 years.. that is a wonderful reason to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteI think the rain hopper is inspired and so much nicer than conventional wall lights.
I once saw some ceiling lights made from old tin jelly moulds. I have one I want to use but don't know how to fix it to the wires.. One day I'll work it out.

I love it..perfect for a hall. I have a couple on the wall at the cottage with plants in!
ReplyDeleteThe decor is coming along nicely, thank you for showing...I do love to see what you have been up to!
30 years...now that is rare these days! well done both for sticking the course - through thick and thin no doubt...Cx
it will be ours in a couple of years!
well, as you saw, i love quirky, so I think the light "fitting" is wonderful! Congrats on your anniversary too! I have not yet worn the hat only because I have not gone anywhere to where such a special hat. I do wear my more casual vintage hats though. I need a rather glamorous occasion I think, instead of weekly trips to tescos!
ReplyDeleteI just stumble across your blog and website...
ReplyDeleteI love it so much that will add it to my favorites!
I`m hoping that you can get more business coming your way!

I love the rain hopper idea, it's fantastic! Congratulations on your anniversary, hope you have a wonderful day, what a beautiful card. I feel for you painting over dark green paint, has it put you off painting for a while?!

Congratulations on your forthcoming pearl wedding celebrations. 30 years, that's wonderful and I so agree with the wording on the card. Love the eiderdowns, would you believe I don't own one! I am always looking at objects to use in a different way, an ingenious idea you have had with the rain hopper. x
