Catching Up

The kitchen is nearly finished and I have spent most of the weekend filling up the units with all the things I had packed back into boxes. I had to buy new saucepans as mine were unsuitable for the new hob. The first thing I cooked in my new kitchen was pancakes, a little premature I know. No photo though as I was so greedy I ate them before I thought of getting my camera out.

At the weekend we bought this old enamel 5 ft. sign for the kitchen. I thought it would look great and I love the colour.

Talking of colours, I have painted the walls white and the units are white so I have a completely blank canvas. I ordered some things from Cath Kidston as I fancied vintagey blues and reds but my husband isn't keen on this rather feminine look.

Talking of Cath Kidston, having criticised their customer service in a previous post I have to praise their handling of this order as it came very quickly.

We also bought an old pine plate rack at the weekend. I'm not sure if I will use it in the kitchen so if not I will be putting it on the website. We found a little antique shop I had never visited before just crammed with beautiful things. I could have spent a fortune but was very restrained!

I bought these flowers last week and was surprised to see that the variety of daffodil is called St. Keverne which is where I lived for 14 years and was married from. I thought I would try to buy some bulbs to plant in the garden.

Spring seems to be almost upon us. I have been watching a pair of doves building a nest in a tree in our garden. A couple of blackbirds were hovering (preparing to gazump?) but the doves were having none of it!

Have a good week everyone.

  1. Hi Ruth

Thanks for visiting my blog! I know, I do post a lot, I seem to be in the habit now and I know I love to see what everyone else is up too.

I really like the CK stuff you've bought, I think it will look all bright and fresh with the white. The sign is fab too!

  2. Hmmm how weird, it's putting me as my old username or whatever you call it... I hope you know who I am really (shabby chick/country in the town). I couldn't comment at all before and now it's gone all strange on me :-S

  3. Putting seats on those chairs is so tricky. If they have a removable rod, it's not a problem but if it has to be wound around the dowel several times, it is hard work, especially we always try to put the "tacks" underneath the top layer. You are right, the child sized chairs are so sweet, you cant help but love them!

  5. The chintzy scheme looks delightfully pretty but I can understand a man feeling uncomfortable with it! What fun you're having. I envy you.

  6. Looking forward to seeing the end result,I bet it'll be fab! I love blue and red together, I should start with just a few girlie bits, then introduce more gradually, hubbie might not notice!;-)

  7. Thanks for the advice Ruth, I'm sure you're right. Preschool say that she has to get used to going in because of school but in some ways I think that making her dread it will set her off on the wrong foot anyway.

I love your idea of making something for myself by the way, that hadn't actually occurred! I think I am too dead set on making things to sell but I will definitely think of something to do with it.

Hope you and your fabulous new kitchen are well! Mel xxx

  8. Isn't it great to feel that spring is in the air...nothing more cheery than a jug of daffodils on the table.
