As I was going to Ikea.....

As my husband and I were driving to Ikea on Saturday I spied something very interesting beside a stall at a very small fruit and veg market. I shouted 'STOP' to husband who wasn't too keen to do so. Going to Ikea ( a four letter word in his vocabulary) was bad enough but he wanted to get there and home in the shortest time possible. A detour was not on the cards. Well I insisted so he parked and I walked back along the road. There were only three stalls, two selling greengrocery and the other selling guitars and the item I had spied. I hardly dare ask whether it was still for sale (it was lunchtime) and when the man said yes and told me the price I didn't bargain, said. 'Yes, I'll give you that' and carried her back to the car with a big grin on my face. I have named her Lily and she will accompany Loveday who already stands on my landing.

She was made by Kennett & Lindsell Ltd and is a size 14 (though I think her waist looks quite tiny to be this size).

If you hate shopping at Ikea this may make you laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNcaaehKaC8

Love the IKEA song on YouTube. Hope you got there in the end ... and managed to get out again!

  5. Hi Ruth - Great news about Packhouse. I think that might be where one of my dealers has space - Nicky Vallance. You may come across her if so.

No, won't be at Ardingly sadly. Owing to dealer holiday I'll be at Dairy House most of next week.

Look forward to hearing how you get on at Packhouse AND Ardingly!

  8. Hi Ruth , funny I came onto your blog and you have a tailors dummy. I was only saying to my Mum today about how I am clueless when it comes to making clothes and I would need a dummy!

In answer to your question on my blog, yes the machine does do monograms. It will do anything, pattern, letters as long as it is in PES format.

  9. There should be an IKEA for vintage stuff. Not mass produced, just a huge building full of interesting stuff, like a flea market but permanent and indoors. Preferably with dimebar cake. Ummmmmm dimebar cake.....

  10. Are you still reading the Post Office Girl? I really enjoyed it. And by 'enjoyed' I mean 'was completely depressed by' but you know what I mean.

  11. What a wonderful find Ruth! Lily is lovely. Yuo would have kicked yourself if you had not stopped. Well worth stopping for..
I really quite like Ikea for a modern shop it's not bad at all. I have just bought some bookcases to go in my workroom. I really wanted some haberdashery units 1950's but that will have to wait a bit longer.. My Ikea units will do perfectly well for now. Funny video!

  15. I have a 'dummy' like this in our bed sitting room upstairs and have it dressed in a 1960s cocktail dress! In winter I change this for an early 1970s Victorian style clartet red velvet number (how I wish I could still get into it!)
